Bhubaneswar (SunstarBureau): Bijay Shankar of Biju Janta Dal clutched a margin victory, leading with a vote count of 86,487 with a margin lead of more than 40,487.
Followed by BJP’s Rajkishore Behera with a total vote count of 46,000 and Congress has stood at bottom with a total vote of 28,329.
Before announcement of the result, supporters have already anticipated the end result as BJD was leading with a significant margin number at Tirtol constituency.
The counting of votes started at 8 am amid tight security arrangements and strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines. The bypolls were held on November 3.
The electoral fortunes of 9 candidates that was stood hanging has been declared fair and sqaure. The BJD has fielded Bijay Shankar Das, the son of Bishnu Charan Das, in the Tirtol seat, while the Congress candidate in Himansu Bhushan Mallick, and Rajkishore Behera is the BJP nominee.
